Wheel Pressing 4



The first thing to do is slip the Driving Boxes on the bearings. Then the keys were ground on a diamond wheel to custom fit them whit each wheel. I wanted a very close fit. The key was then tapped into the slot on the axle with a copper hammer. Since the keys were made longer to allow finish machining, the wheels are lined up with the key and then the axle. Finally the wheels are pressed on. There were holes in the press plates on the top, and bottom when the wheel was already pressed on, to clear the protruding key.
