Rear Cylinder Cover 3
23-Dec-2005
These pictures are on machining the rear Cyclinder
Head Cover. I choose to alter the design of the packing glands. I
threaded both the Valve Guide and the Cyclinder Head Cover. The Valve
Guide was tapped 5/8-24, and the Cyclinder Head Cover was tapped
3/4-24. Gordon had these not-so-standard taps. However he only had a
3/4-24 bottoming tap, so I treaded about 3/4 of the bore using the
lathe (the first picture), and then used the tap to complete the lathe
threads and finish the threads to the bottom of the bore.
The packing glands will be threaded on the lathe to
match.
The copper jaw protectors are taped on in such a way
as to be usefull when the driving boxes are bored.
