Main Wheels 9.JPG
29-Nov-2005
These were taken at my shop. My lathe is a 13" x 48"
Sheldon. My mill, a Grizley 3616 is not yet on order at this time.
I grabbed the raw castings on the flanges, the tire
tread had too much of a draft angle, and turned the tire tread and then
drilled and bored the center holes.
Later, I used an expandable arbor in a collet to
hold the wheel in center hole.
After makeing some of the flanges too narrow, I
decided to make seperate steel tires and turn the wheel to a diameter
0.008" larger than the bore of the tires. The tire will be heated to
heat shrink them on the wheels.
More on this when those pictures are presented. (a
