Tender Trucks - Radial Collar 2
2-Aug-2007
A single bearing of only 7/8 diameter will not hold
up very long with the weight of the water and the rider. We have had
some bearing failures in the past with the same small brearing. I had
two choices, one, use larger bearings. The journal boxes are only large
enough to be bored to 1 inch. This didn't seem like a large enough
increase. The second choice was to use two 7/8 diameter bearings, and
make a radial bushing that would allow the bearings to flex in the
journal boxes.
I made a radius tool holder extension to the compound that would give
me a radius of about 4 inches. I rotated the tool by hand using the
slightly loose compound as the pivet. Since the tool is mounted
upside-down in the rear, the lathe must be run in reverse.
